Places to visitBest locations in the UK for stargazing as the trend rockets
As the allure of the cosmos captures the imagination of people across the nation, we have noted a remarkable surge in stargazing interest, with a staggering 150% increase in enthusiasts.
There has been a growing fascination with the exploration of the night sky. Stargazing trending coincides with a heightened appreciation for the natural world and a desire, for many, to reconnect with the wonders of the world.
In response to this peak in interest, we have investigated light pollution data across all the UK counties to identify prime stargazing locations across the United Kingdom.
East Suffolk
Nestled along the picturesque coastline, East Suffolk boasts expansive vistas and minimal light pollution, offering stargazers unparalleled clarity to marvel at the celestial wonders above.
The Suffolk landscapes are filled full of charming villages and rolling countryside, and nature enthusiasts can immerse themselves in the unspoiled views of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
East Suffolk shines as one of the UK's prime stargazing destinations, boasting incredibly low light pollution levels of just 0.26mcd/m2 (brightness).
East Sussex
With its rolling hills and tranquil countryside, East Sussex provides an idyllic setting for stargazing enthusiasts to escape the city's luminous glow and immerse themselves in the beauty of the night sky.
Sussex ranks as the second-best location in the UK for stargazing according to light pollution data (0.31mcd/m2), offering pristine skies for celestial observation.
And during the day? Whether you're entranced by coastal splendor or prefer serene countryside retreats, Sussex presents an enticing array of options - from picturesque landscapes, including the majestic South Downs National Park, and abundant opportunities for hiking, cycling, and exploration. Nature enthusiasts can find diverse ecosystems found within Sussex's numerous Nature Reserves, showcasing a fascinating array of flora and fauna. Highlights include Rye Harbour and Filsham Reedbed.
Cambridgeshire
Renowned for its vast open spaces and pristine landscapes, Cambridgeshire emerges as a premier stargazing destination in third spot for stargazing according to light pollution data (0.41 mcd/m2).
The Cambridgeshire countryside offers unobstructed views of the stars on a clear evening and is even home to the Cambridge Observatory, Institute of Astronomy which sometimes opens to the public for telescopic views of the sky (though these visits are currently on hiatus until Oct 2024).
The team at Park Holidays say; "We are delighted to witness such a remarkable surge in stargazing interest, as more people seek solace and inspiration beneath the canopy of stars"
"As champions of outdoor exploration and adventure, we are committed to providing our guests with unparalleled opportunities to connect with nature and experience the awe-inspiring beauty of the night sky."
Whether novice observers or seasoned astronomers, we invite individuals and families alike to embark on an unforgettable stargazing journey at one of our premier holiday parks, where the wonders of the cosmos await.
