Places to visitExplore the County - Devon Points of Interest
Think Devon, think amazing coastline, award-winning beaches and stunning nature; the English Riviera draws thousands of visitors to Devon every year with the promise of sunshine and beautiful scenery.
And with 185 million years of geological history behind it, the incredible Jurassic Coast has the power to knock your socks (and sandals) off!

A bit about Devon
Devon, also known as Devonshire, is a county reaching from the Bristol Channel in the north to the English Channel in the south. It is part of South West England, bordered by Cornwall to the west, Somerset to the northeast, and Dorset to the east. The area of Devon is approximately 2,590 square miles and it has a population of roughly 1 million people.
With its fantastic coastline, quaint towns and villages, and amazing scenic views it’s an incredibly popular place for holiday visitors, both from the UK and abroad.

A bit about Beaches
Those who love the beach will be spoiled for choice in Devon, it’s well known as one of the most beach-friendly counties in England with epic seascapes to explore, rock pools to delve into, and perfectly peaceful locations to sunbathe and relax.
Choose from lauded beaches (many are Blue Flag awarded) like the famous Goodrington Sands, Mouthmill Beach, stunning Plymouth Hoe (East Beach), Batten Bay, the brilliantly monickered Beer Beach, Watcombe Beach and Holcombe Beach (Teignmouth) to name but a few.
Essential items to bring include a bucket and spade as many of the beaches offer long stretches of golden sand. In fact the UK National Sandcastle Competition is held here in the last week of August. Sun cream is also a must as (in general) the sun shines consistently strongly in Devon over the summer months, its temperate climate is revered by visitors.
Exmoor
A bit about the beautiful Devon Countryside
There are so many areas of wonderful scenery to visit in the county of Devon that you'll never run out of options for fun and adventure. With five "Areas of Outstanding Beauty" (Blackdown Hills, East Devon, North Devon, South Devon, Tamar Valley) and two National Parks it’s one of the most eye-pleasing counties in the UK.
Dartmouth and Exmoor National Park is rightly famous for its scenery; Granite Tors stretch to the skyline among heather-clad moors, and established woodlands. The landscape varies with river valleys and plenty of wide open spaces; amazing climbing and hiking is available, along with kayaking for those who prefer this healthy (and wet!) pursuit.
It also hosts two World Heritage sites (the Jurassic Coast and The Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape) and a Biosphere Reserve in North Devon.

A bit about Devon Cuisine
Devon is renowned for its rich clotted cream and staggeringly tasty cheeses which is mainly put down to the quality and vitality of the local livestock. The seafood is also highly regarded with the Devon crab in particular gracing many a posh London eatery.
Devon also has an array of acclaimed restaurants. Unsurprisingly many chefs flock to this tourist hotspot to set up their restaurants, (some Michelin Starred) so you won’t be short of quality places to eat.
Also don’t forget to sup a pint of the local "Scrumpy" aka Cider during your Devon stay. It’s the most fun way to get your apple(s) a day and keep that pesky doctor away.
