Things to doRainy Day Activities
Don't let the (occasionally not so great) British weather put a ‘dampener’ on your holiday. We’ve compiled a list of fun activities and places to go on a rainy day with kids (and adults!), should those heavens decide to open.
Whether you’re looking for attractions to visit and places to go, or if you’d prefer to have some fun at the park or in your accommodation, this list will hopefully give you some inspiration to make sure you and the kids don’t miss out on a minute of fun! Which will you try first?
Attractions To Visit
Visit an aquarium
Amaze your kids and take them on an underwater journey to discover all different species of sea creatures and sea life. From sharks, to turtles, crustaceans to tropical fishes, they will be totally mesmerised.
We recommend: SEA LIFE Brighton (which has just recently had a huge refurbishment), SEA LIFE Great Yarmouth, National Marine Aquarium in Devon, and the Blue Reef Aquarium in Hastings.
Go Trampolining
Not only is trampolining a great way to get the kids moving around and using up some of that excess energy they always have, but it’s also a lot of fun for adults, too! There are plenty of indoor trampoline centres dotted across the UK, so you’ll never be far from having a jump about!
Break out of an Escape Room
Here’s a rainy day activity that will get the whole family thinking! Solve the clues and crack the puzzles as you try and make an escape within one hour – can you handle the pressure as the time is slipping by?! This is a great activity to test out your teamwork as a family. We even have our very own Escape Room experience at St Osyth Holiday Park.
We recommend: Devon Escape, Escape Live in Essex, Tricky Escape Clacton, and Tricky Escape Harwich
Watch a film at the cinema
You may not always find the time when you’re at home to visit your local cinema to watch the latest film. So why not grab a bag of your favourite pick’n' mix, a box of popcorn, and escape the weather with a trip to the big screen to catch the latest superhero blockbuster, the little ones will love it!
Play Ten-Pin Bowling
No matter what age, everyone can enjoy a game of ten-pin bowling, especially since most modern lanes have child-friendly features meaning even the tiniest of bowlers have a fair chance of scoring a strike. You’ll find that most bowling centres also have other amenities and activities, such as arcades and restaurants, so you can make a whole afternoon out of it.
Discover An Indoor Climbing Centre
Another great way to channel some pent up energy is to find your local indoor climbing centre and show off your best Spiderman impression! It’s sure to be fun for both adults and children on a rainy day, and beats being bored sitting indoors.
We recommend: Out Of Bounds in Sussex and Rock Up Whiteley

Visit a Museum
Museums can be fun too! And there are plenty of different types of museums that offer an interesting a educational day out for everyone. Ancient and Modern History, Dinosaurs, True Crime are all topics ripe for exploring. Why not test out everyone’s knowledge afterwards with a fun quiz and a prize for the winner?
We recommend: The True Crime Museum in Sussex, The Dinosaur Museum in Dorchester and the East Anglian Railway Museum in Essex
Of course, if you don’t fancy venturing out at all and would rather stay cosy indoors, here are a few ideas that you can do either in your accommodation or using the parks’ facilities.
Things To Do On The Park and In Your Accommodation
Bake Something Yummy
It’s sometimes challenging to think of rainy day ideas, but, who doesn’t love the smell of warm, freshly baked bread filling up the kitchen? So why not cook up a storm and make something delicious that the whole family will love! Most children love to help out with baking, especially if there’s a fresh cookie or cupcake at the end for them.
Play Cards
Remember the card games you used to play when you were younger? Why not pass them down and teach your kids how to play them? If you’re struggling to remember the names of them, solitaire's not the only game in town, here’s a few other ideas: Gin Rummy, Snap, Sevens, Go Fish, Pairs, Texas Hold Em Poker. You’re welcome.
Tea party/indoor picnic
Get the picnic blanket out and set out little plates with snacks, drinks and napkins and enjoy an indoor picnic! Most of our holiday parks have either mini-mart shops or local supermarkets nearby where you can pick up some goodies. (Soft toys also make for useful guests!)
Colouring
Grab a pack of colouring pencils and let their inner Picasso come out! Colouring can be very relaxing and also rewarding when their masterpiece gets put up on the fridge for everyone to see back home (if you're anything like us then you haven't seen the front door of the fridge since the kids were old enough to carry a crayon).
Play Board Games
Got a competitive streak? Then get their favourite board game out and have hours of rainy day fun. From Scrabble, Cluedo, Ludo, Snakes & Ladders to Monopoly, there is a board game that everyone can join in on!
Plan Your Next Family Holiday
The rain won’t stick around forever, so why not take the opportunity to plan your next family adventure together?
Don’t forget, our holiday parks have a variety of family-friendly facilities that are free for you to use and enjoy, including swimming pools, arcades, soft play areas, and more! There’s plenty of activities to keep you all entertained.

We're one of the largest providers of caravan holidays in the UK, and with more parks along the south coast of England than anyone else you are bound to find the perfect break to suit you and your family.
