Places to visitBring the Love! The most romantic places to visit in the Southern UK
Why travel abroad for a romantic getaway when there are so many places in the UK that were seemingly created with couples in mind? These great locations are sure to earn you big brownie points should you choose to whisk your other half away for a romantic break for two. So from historic castles and famous landmarks, to secluded restaurants and beautiful gardens, we’ve rounded up some of the most charming spots on the southern coast.
Durdle Door, Dorset
This limestone arch is one of Dorset’s most iconic and photographed landmarks, forming part of the Jurassic coast. It certainly makes the ultimate backdrop for any romantic moment, whether it be a proposal (eek!) or just a stroll along the clifftops. Whatever your romantic intentions, Durdle Door is sure to offer you plenty of picture-perfect memories.
Rosemoor Gardens, Devon
Lose yourself in the beautiful flora and fauna these enchanting gardens offer, nestled in the beautiful Torridge Valley in Devon. Each year Rosemoor holds over 100 events, workshops, and short courses designed to inspire people to grow their own, so why not make a whole day of it and learn how to cultivate your own beautiful flora with your green-fingered partner.
Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth
Hold hands and experience the South Coast’s beautiful views from the Emirates Spinnaker Tower together. Or, for the more adventurous couples, why not take on a 100 metre descent down the side of the tower and share unmissable views and memories that will stay with you a lifetime?! Could give a whole new meaning to the phrase "I've fallen for you!".
Arundel Castle, Sussex
Live your very own fairy tale together at Arundel Castle and saunter around the pretty surroundings in the gorgeous British sunshine. The castle offers over a thousand years of history which can be learnt from their friendly guides, letting you discover the fascinating architecture, furniture, tapestries and rare (and beautiful) collection of paintings.
The White Cliffs of Dover, Kent
If you’re a pair of early birds, get up early and catch the sunrise over the cliffs for a truly beautiful start to your day. Surrounded by blue skies, glistening seas, and fresh air, the White Cliffs of Dover is the ideal location for a leisurely stroll hand-in-hand, or a picnic overlooking the English Channel. Romantic weekend breaks won’t get much better than this!
Leeds Castle, Kent
Play Lord and Lady of the manor and discover 900 years of history along with 500 acres of beautiful gardens and parkland at Leeds Castle in Kent. Famously described as ‘the loveliest castle in the world’ by historian Lord Conway, it is easy to see how it gained this title.
Butley Orford Oysterage, Suffolk
On first appearances, it isn’t the most romantic-looking place, but this no-frills restaurant offers ‘the most delicious oysters in the entire country’. They say that oysters are the ultimate aphrodisiac, and there’s no better place to share a plateful than at Butley Orford Oysterage, where they are still fished directly from Butley Creek.
Our holiday parks are also perfect for a spot of romance…
Becky and Tom chose Waterside Holiday Park in Paignton, Devon, as the destination for their wedding reception, and this is what they had to say:
And it seems they weren’t the only ones enjoying a bit of romance at Park Holidays UK… Hayley Canter’s parents were thrilled when they arrived at their accommodation at Golden Sands Holiday Park to find balloons, confetti and gifts to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary. Congratulations again!
And Steve Phillips and his wife enjoyed a special start to their honeymoon at one of our parks.
We hope this has given you plenty of inspiration if you are looking to take your loved one to spend some quality time together. Whatever you fancy doing, there is plenty waiting to be discovered right here in the UK.
