Guestling Woods & Pett Level Beach (1.3 miles apart) – Near Rye Harbour and Winchelsea Sands

Guestling woods is home to a wonderful display of wood anemone and bluebells (a protected species of flower) in the spring months. Two footpaths are available both running North to South. Be aware, the walk can be hilly which will tire out four-legs as well two. Also, a small stream runs alongside the woodlands western border, guaranteed to capture the attention of any thirsty pups. With Pett Level’s beach just a short drive down the road, you can combine the fun of the woods and the seaside in one outing.

This beautiful shingle beach is very flat, making dog walks very leisurely. If you’re lucky enough to visit when the tide is out it will provide an opportunity to see something very special. A sunken petrified forest can be viewed in the sand on a low tide and is thought to be at least 6,000 years old, so if your pooch discovers some oak or birch wood don’t be too shocked.

Also, keep an eye out for dinosaur fossils, many have been discovered along this beach!

Bexhill Beach – Near Beauport and Coghurst Hall

Bexhill’s beach is ideal for walkers with a promenade that stretches up to 1.8 miles. On your walk you will find fantastic sea views to one side and interesting buildings to the other, such as the ‘De La Warr Pavilion’ and clock tower. The promenade went through a multimillion pound investment in recent years providing a contemporary aesthetic to selected arears of the seafront.

Along the promenade most dogs will be kept on lead, however, on a low tide you will meet lots of dogs off lead playing and running along the sand or splashing around in the sea. This is a pebbled beach that tail or no tail, you will love.

If you need to stop off for a refreshment you will both be welcome at the dog-friendly colonnade café (with an outside seating area).

Beachy Head to Seven Sisters – Near Pevensey Bay

One the most scenic walks to be found in the entire of Sussex, standing 531ft high, these are the tallest sea cliffs in the whole of Britain! At this high altitude, you will enjoy a blustery walk that will have the wind running through your hair (and fur) throughout.

These glisteningly white chalk cliffs will make for a unique walk for you both and it’s one that you will be wanting to repeat.

NOTE: anyone with four-legs should be kept on a lead at all times due to the cliff edges.

West Withering Beach – Near Chichester Lakeside

If you have a pup who’s a fan of premier Blue Flag beaches, then West Withering beach is a must visit (the Award is given for the excellent water quality and facilities). This flat, sandy beach, makes for a relaxing walk with views of the Chichester Harbour, South Downs and beyond, and a huge space for them to run around whilst getting their paws sandy and wet.

Also, the beach is known to be popular with wind and kite surfers, which will fascinate and bamboozle all canines in sight.

Camber Sands – Near Rye Harbour & Winchelsea

Sand, sand, sand! Camber Sands is home to the only sands dune system in East Sussex! Stretching almost five miles long, the coastline slowly transitions into pebble the further East that you walk. As the sea is very shallow, pop your feet and paws in and enjoy a paddle in the sea. The water is usually shallow making it ideal for any tentative pooches who prefer to doggy-paddle rather than swim.

With tall grassy dunes situated along the banks of the beach, you’ll be sure to find your dog investigating the area and thinking to themselves “how does grass grow in sand?!”
